A Weekend Away at Kagga Kamma Under a Blanket of Stars

Kagga Kamma is located in an untouched wilderness area in the Swartruggens region of the Cederberg Mountains. The Nature Reserve has a variety of unique accommodation to choose from and offers nature lovers a chance to experience spectacular scenery, dramatic rock formations, rich and fascinating cultural heritage, ancient rock art sites, amazing indigenous fauna and flora and phenomenal night skies. Kagga Kamma is the perfect destination for a most memorable nature holiday.

In 2013 Kagga Kamma was awarded the RCI Green Award for the installation of a Solar Photovoltaic hybrid energy system. This system provides around-the-clock environmentally-friendly power to the entire resort, reducing hazardous emissions, and therefore, the resort's carbon footprint.

Star Suite - Open Air Room

Kagga Kamma now offers a brand new, natural Open Air Room at a private platform set about three kilometers from the Main Lodge, between the most astonishing rock formations overlooking the fynbos plains. At the new open air room, you and your partner can fully immerse yourselves in the wonders and sounds of the wilderness; the call of the jackal, the chatter of the birds and the sound of wind through the rock formations.

The highlights – the glittering Milky Way is your ceiling and of course the spectacular African sunset and sunrise. Aside from the adventure of being outside in the middle of a Nature Reserve at night, you are by no means roughing it – with a proper queen-size bed, cozy bedding, a natural rock pool and a “star bath”!

Extra special features

Outdoor Shower

Enjoy a refreshing and indulgent outdoor shower in the fresh air with a panoramic view under the stars or sun — all add up to an unforgettable experience.

Star Bath

The ultimate relaxation; soak in a bath under the stars with no walls or ceilings to obstruct your view.

Natural Rock Pool

Romantic? Undoubtedly. Unique? Absolutely. Cool off in the natural rock pool. While enjoying a glass of sparkling wine, appreciating the natural wonders around you.

Kagga Kamma Swimming Pools

In-between spectacular rock formations, guests will find one of Kagga Kamma's two swimming pools. During those hot Karoo-like summers this is the place to be to cool down or put your feet up in the shade. In winter-time guests often curl up with a book on the sun loungers around the pool.

Nature Drives

Early Morning and Late Night Nature Drives

Dry Mountain Fynbos and Succulent Karoo plants provide grazing for animals in this Western part of South Africa. Kagga Kamma's qualified guides take guests on Nature Drives where breath-taking views of the Ceres Karoo, Tankwa Karoo and Cederberg can be enjoyed. Morning and Late-Night Drives cross the 15 000ha Reserve to spot resident animal species such as antelope and ostrich. Guests may also spot Lynx, Jackal and the spectacular, but very rarely seen, Cape Mountain Leopard. On the drive the guides will also point out interesting bird and reptile species and share fascinating facts about the plants of the area. This experience between the magnificent rock formations will leave guests with a deep appreciation for Kagga Kamma's unique environment.

Sundowner Trips

The Sundowner Trip takes you to one of the most beautiful viewing points on Kagga Kamma. Sip on a drink and quietly contemplate the spectacular unpopulated landscape with mountain ranges unfolding and a light wind the only sound. Look out for the Elephant Shrew which, as tradition would have it, often pays a visit.
